God has a plan and a destination for your life. We are all apart of a greater mission field and, as Christ-followers, it is our duty to get close to Him to figure out what that is.
When you think of a mission field, you probably think of missionaries who are going to remote countries and sharing the Good News with the natives. And while that is such a remarkable sacrifice, not everyone is called to do that.
However, I am here to tell you that God has called EVERYONE for a unique purpose. Let’s call it your own personal mission field.
God has a specific plan for your life. A plan He has entrusted you with. He uses areas that you are great at, talented in and have a fiery passion for.
With them, He gifts you with the ability to speak for Him and help Him lead more of His children home to Him.
How Do You Know God Has A Purpose For Your Life?
Have you ever wonder what the reason was that God put you on this Earth? There was a time I felt the same way. Not long ago, I had no idea what I was doing or what God wanted from me.
If He had something for me to do, what in the world was it?? I’ve known my entire life that I wanted to be a wife and a mother, but beyond that was a mystery.
It’s very instinctual to want more out of life rather than just living and doing. You want to know that you are making a difference and not just living for yourself.
When you become a Christ-follower, your journey on this earth shifts. You aren’t about yourself, you are about Kingdom purposes. How can I be in this world as a light in the darkness?
Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he has planned for us long ago.” (NLT).
Wait, what? Long ago, God had a plan for us? Before we even decided to follow Jesus? It MUST be important work if we were chosen before we chose Jesus!
Are You Ready To Find Your Mission Field?
Chances are if you’re here, you’re ready to know more. But are you ready to say “YES” to God’s promptings? Have you faced decisions in your life that was God reaching out to you? Did you even know it was God?
Before He gives you your path, He’s going to give you little tasks to see if you actually start doing what He asks.
For me, those little things were listening to the Holy Spirit prompting me to talk to a certain person, or going on a fast from a favorite food or drink. Those things, I said “yes” to, even though I didn’t know the reason why He was asking me.
Luke 16:10 says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” (NIV). Once He knows you will listen and obey the little things, He will give you more responsibility, and a reveal your greater purpose.
You Were Created For A Reason
Let me tell you what Jesus said as the end-all-be-all for mission fields.
In Matthew 28:18-20 He says, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (NLT).
Even though you don’t know your particular mission field… YET… a good place to start is just getting out there! Be a light in the darkness. And don’t be afraid, because Jesus said Himself, that He would be with us the entire time – FOREVER!
How Do You Find God’s Mission Field For Your Life?
A clear way that I have found is spending time with God daily. Make time for quiet when you can hear His still, small voice. Our God speaks in whispers to make sure that we stop and listen.
Another way that I have found is getting involved in my church. When you are with a body of believers who have the same focus and intent as you, you will be able to start understanding the natural gifts that God has given you.
When you find a church that has been awakened to God’s Truth, the inspiration you will find there is incredible.
Taking The Leap
In order to find God’s purpose in your life, you have to be willing to say YES to His promptings. God shared with me my mission field in bits and pieces over time.
Over several months of truly searching and waiting, God started revealing to me some bigger responsibilities that He wanted me to say yes to.
The first big responsibility that He called me to was becoming a leader in the small group I was involved in at church. This small group is only for moms, I might add. I didn’t feel like I was good enough to do it, but I said yes anyway.
The second prompting, a couple months later, was Him calling me to homeschool my children.
The third prompting He called me to, was to start this ministry blog for moms just like you.
Realizing all three of these callings, and having the courage to say YES to them, I realized what my mission field was that God was calling me to do.
Between my moms-only study group, homeschooling my kids and a ministry blog for moms, my mission field was clear: A ministry for mothers.
You may not have any understanding of what your purpose for God is, but I want to encourage you to make the first step in figuring that out. You find that out by taking time for God daily, and stopping to listen.
When you are around a great church that follows the TRUTH of God’s Word, without added extras, you become awakened to a better understanding of what God wants for your life.
Finally, when you find yourself in situations you know God calling you to, even if they seem strange or simple, say YES no matter what. Those are the little jobs that God will turn into bigger missions that He can entrust you with.
Have faith and just say YES.
