As moms who live for Christ, our responsibility to God is great. Not only are we to live as Jesus lived, but we are entrusted to raise other people to do the same. It’s not easy. In fact, it’s a very difficult task and not for the faint of heart. Thankfully, God has given us a title we can use in His name – Warrior Mom for Christ!
How Can You Become A Warrior Mom For Christ?
Simply put – by acting like Christ.
We act like Christ by doing what He did. What was the action that Jesus did MOST in the Bible? He prayed. He had a relationship with God by being in constant conversation with Him and inviting God into everything that He did.
I can’t think of a better example for being a warrior for God than by looking at God’s Son, Himself.
It Starts With Thanksgiving
Jesus made thanksgiving to God a priority, not only when talking to others, but in His conversations with God. If we’re to act like Christ, we need to start doing the same.
Make prayer a priority in your day. Make thankfulness in your prayer a priority. It might be tempting to just say one thing that you’re thankful for to Him. Or even just one day a year. I want to encourage you to do more than that.
Jesus began and ended His prayers in thanksgiving to His Heavenly Father every. single. day. He even thanked God for the ability to sacrifice Himself. Can you believe it??
What would have happened, can you imagine, if Jesus was not thankful for being sacrificed?
When we don’t show thanksgiving to God we end up with an ungrateful and selfish heart. That doesn’t really scream “warrior mom”, does it?
To become a warrior mom for Christ, our first step is to show thanksgiving, and make it the beginning and ending of our prayers.
A Desire For Wisdom And Good Judgement
Throughout all of Proverbs, wisdom is talked about as the most important thing you could ever ask for. The Bible says to search for wisdom just like you would for hidden treasures.
Proverbs 2:6-11 says, “For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy. Wise choices will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.” (NLT).
God wants you to ask for it. He says that having wisdom will keep you out of trouble and protect you.
Second to wisdom, good judgement is also very important to ask for. When you have both wisdom and good judgement at your disposal, not only will you be better at living like Christ, but you will be able to raise your children in the same way.
Proverbs 4:5-7 says, “Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them. Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you. Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.” (NLT).
As a warrior mom for Christ, you need both of these to be able to raise your children in the way that God wants you to.
Make God Your Best Friend
It can be SO tempting as moms to go to girlfriends or mentors for help and advice when situations aren’t going your way. While having those people are great to have in your life, I want to encourage you to go to Someone else first.
Who better to go to with your troubles than the Creator of the Universe who makes time for you! Just look at Psalm 91! This chapter has amazed and comforted me many times.
A Time When God Showed Me He Was My Best Friend
At a time when I was newly coming back to Christ after falling away, I’m going to be real with you: my husband and I were having a fight.
At some point during the fight, I was able to get alone. I cried and cried for God to help. After that, I felt such a peace and He helped us resolve our fight and forgive one another.
The next day, as my eyes were still puffy from my sobbing the night before, in my morning devotions, I came across Psalm 91:14-16. It says, “The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.” (NLT).
His promises are perfect and true. It was exactly what I needed to hear at the exact moment, and what’s more, it was because I sought His counsel above all else.
Warrior Moms For Christ Bring Him Into All Situations
What better way to become a warrior than by having the Creator at your side everywhere you go, because He wants you to invite Him into all that you do.
- Bring Him into washing dishes or folding clothes.
- Invite Him into your parenting and marriage.
- Let Him into your grocery shopping and mile long to-do list.
Have conversations with Him like He’s a Friend sitting there with you, because He is already there! This is a great way to show your children an example of making God your top priority.
When they see you inviting God into every area of your life, they will grow up learning to do the same.
Understand Your Purpose
When you understand the purpose for what God has for you, you will start using the tools that God has equipped you with. We were all created for a reason.
When we do the will of the Father, it strengthens us to stay true to Him. Call it continuing to work your spiritual muscles.
Just like physical muscles, when you continue to use them, and go beyond what you think their limitations are, they grow stronger.
It’s such an amazing gift from God to be called a Warrior Mom for Christ!
Start off and end every prayer you have with a thankful heart. There have been times when I was so lost, that all I could start off with was saying thank you for something as simple as water. After that, the words will come out easier.
Wisdom and good judgement will transform your life and how you raise your children. When you know how God wants you to raise them, they’ll grow to become strong adults in the Lord.
Continue your strong relationship with God. Let Him into all areas of your life and go to Him first before all others. When He is first in your life, it’s easier for Him to reveal your purpose to you. After all, we were created to serve Him, so our world should wrap around Him.
